About Ray

Experience to contribute from day one.

I have served Tiny in elected office, municipal administration, fire and emergency services, business and community organizations. That range of experience gives me a practical understanding of both the authority and the limits of local government.

Municipal experience

I know the work — not just the slogans.

I have served as a Councillor and Mayor of the Township of Tiny and as a member of Simcoe County Council. I have also worked on the staff side of municipal government.

That matters because Council and staff have different jobs. Council sets policy, establishes priorities and makes decisions. Professional staff administer the municipality, provide advice and implement Council’s direction. Good government depends on respecting that distinction.

Responsibility has consequences.

Sending others into harm’s way to protect life and property is a profound responsibility. As a Fire Chief and emergency-management leader, I understood that it requires preparation, clear responsibility, sound information and calm judgment. Those are not optional.

Those same habits belong at the Council table: establish the facts, listen to professional advice, understand the risk and then make the decision.

Business & construction

Plans have to work in the real world.

I owned and operated local construction and homebuilding businesses. I am an interprovincially licensed Red Seal carpenter, an award-winning homebuilder and a mentor to apprentices entering the trade.

That background teaches a practical discipline: scope, design, financing, scheduling, maintenance and lifecycle costs all matter. A desirable project is not automatically a priority, and a large capital project is never explained by one number alone.
